The spring breeze is rippling, and the horse's hooves are flying quickly. The community convenience service volunteer team, which has been on and off during the three years of the epidemic, has become active again.

This convenience service volunteer team provides residents with free haircuts, sewing, and medical services. Among the barber volunteers, there is an old man with white hair, a gray beard, a thin build, and wearing reading glasses. He is Mr. Yang Dajin, a five-star party member volunteer in Shenzhen who is over eighty years old and has served for 20 years.

The first time I met Yang Dajin was when I first arrived in this community. It was a convenience service day. There was a cheerful old man in the crowd. He was walking with a book in his hand and asked what was written. When I inquired, I found out that he was serving as the reporter for the convenience service day that day. He is Yang Dajin.

After a brief conversation, I found out that he was from Langzhong Middle School in Sichuan Province. He taught senior high school students every year and once served as the vice principal of a complete middle school. After retiring in 2002, he followed his children to settle in the Four Seasons Flower City in Bantian, Shenzhen. We immediately got close. Both of us were senior middle school teachers, and his life experiences had many similarities with mine. After that, I often wrote letters to the Shenzhen Elderly Website, and he provided me with volunteer materials. Later, I learned that he had a passion for charity and volunteerism.

1. Enthusiastic about giving to the community. At that time, the community had just opened and the living environment was excellent. However, there were occasional noise disturbances in the surrounding area, and the living environment of the residents was not quiet enough. Since 2003, the community has organized a volunteer patrol team to guard the garden. Yang Dajin has joined the community patrol team to stand guard for the safety of community residents. He still has in his hand an honorary certificate for "Excellent Patrol Team" issued that year.

Since 2004, he has participated in voluntary duty in the Party Member Activity Room until 2019, a total of sixteen years.

Since 2005, I have participated in convenience services, working as a clerk and hairdresser, until now. I have served countless elderly people. We usually provide door-to-door services for the elderly, elderly people living alone and retired elderly people. Community Volunteer Day is a community festival. When the time comes, residents come from all directions to the service site to receive services. Yang Dajin is always the first to arrive at the service site, busy moving tables and stools, carrying machines, laying wires, and then diverting residents, maintaining service order, and recording the results of the day. More than ten years of volunteer days are recorded without a single day missing. At the end of the volunteer day, I put the tables, stools, and machines back to their original places.

A closer look at his notebook shows the number of residents served by each full-time volunteer including haircuts, clothing repairs, free medical clinics, home appliance repairs, clothing repairs, psychological consultation, kitchen knife sharpening, and rabies vaccinations. At the end of a year, there is a summary table that records the number of people served by each volunteer throughout the year and the total number of service hours of the entire volunteer team.

Later, he directly provided haircuts for residents. I asked him, "Teacher Yang, how do you know how to cut hair?" Yang Dajin said that he learned it in school. At that time, the classmates in the class cut hair for each other, and I learned from them. I can also sew!

2. Participate in party building and social building. Since 2004, he has been on voluntary duty in the Party Member Activity Room until 2019, a total of sixteen years.

As it is a newly built community, the Party branch was only established in the Four Seasons Flower City in September 2002. At that time, there were only 5 Party members. Expanding the team to find mobile party members is a top priority. Yang Dajin participated in this work. There were no mobile phones at that time, and there were very few telephone calls. I had to rely on my legs to travel from house to house during the day and night. Together with some party members, he vigorously publicized the instructions of the Organization Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China to "retired party members have organizational connections wherever they are." Many party members from the mainland are also looking for party organizations, but they don’t know who to look for, how to go through the formalities for transferring organizational relations, and who to hand over to after they have done so. Yang Dajin answered them one by one. A few years later, with the joint efforts of the community party committee and all party members, the number of community party members increased to more than 200, and the management of floating party members became a national advanced community. The secretary of the community party committee went to Beijing for a meeting and received the honorary gold medal of the National "Advanced Retired Cadre Party Branch" issued by the Organization Department of the Central Committee. Community party branches have gradually expanded from branches to general branches and party committees. Today, community party committees have retired veteran cadre party committees under them. Yang Dajin also participated in the work of the Related Work Committee under the Laogan Party Committee, and voluntarily donated books to primary school students. When school was over, the students wore red armbands and stood on the side of the road as pickets to maintain traffic order. Over the years, Teacher Yang Dajin, who is over eighty years old, has been truly called an "outstanding party member volunteer"! .

In the volunteer team, Yang Dajin serves more than 500 hours every year. In 2006, he was rated as a "Shenzhen Five-Star Volunteer" by the Shenzhen Volunteer Federation. Teacher Yang Dajin is also versatile. He also likes calligraphy and classical poetry. He often participates in essay contests in relevant magazines and media and wins awards frequently! In my eyes, Teacher Yang Dajin is not only a truly outstanding party member volunteer who serves the people, but he is also an "excellent cultural volunteer" who has made extraordinary achievements in community cultural construction!
